Home » Editorial » How to Pick a Playername

When you first register at an online bingo site, you need to choose a username or alias. A lot of players find this quite difficult. Choosing the right username is very important and picking one that reflects your personality isn't easy. Your username is your identity and is how you'll be referred to by your fellow players, so you need to make sure you pick a username which you feel suits you best.

Your username gives other players an insight into your character, so keep it playful and fun. If you’re looking for inspiration to choose your username, why not try to incorporate one of your hobbies or interests. For example, a fan of Motown music or The Beetles may choose Motownman or Beetlesfan1955.

Don’t make it too complex or too long. Nobody wants to have to type Gemmajones_lovestoplaybingo everytime they want to chat to you. A good idea is to abbreviate where possible and even use numbers to represent words. Gemmajones_lovestoplaybingo thus becomes GJ_luvs2bingo.

Interestingly it seems girls and guys use different methods to pick their username. Women are more likely to pick a username that’s linked to their family or partner, such as mum2julie or Debbie-n-Steve. Alternatively, men are more likely to use a different technique to come up with their username.

In a recent survey carried out by a UK bingo network, it was found that a lot of men think with their stomachs and pick usernames which have food themes. Burgerman, Roganjosh, Poppadom, Pepsi and Pringles are all popular choices amongst male bingo players.

Men also believe that using high profile film characters and actors names will bring them luck, with Bond007 being one of the most common names used by men on gaming sites.

It doesn't matter if you want to be Charliesangels, Mrs_bradpitt or only1tg, the most important thing is to keep it fun and pick a username that means something to you.
